Beaches
Skiathos is a lush island in the central Aegean sea with beautiful beaches and natural beauty. The island haw an area of 48 square kilometers and populated by 6500 inhabitants. It is ideal for people all ages since every body can spend unforgettable holidays.
It has 64 beaches and this is why you must not leave the island if you don’t swim at Koukounaries, at Banana, at Agia Eleni, at Ambelakia, at Maratha, at Troulos, at Agia Paraskevi, at Vromolimnos, at Kolios and at Vasilia. Those who prefer quiter beaches can choose among Mandraki, Limani Xerxi, Megalos Aselinos, Mikros Aselinos, Kehria and Lalaria(only by boat).
The visit to house-museum of the famous writer Alexandros Papadiamantis is considered necessary. The house is perfectly preserved and it is located very close to the port.
Bourtzi is a small peninsula, which separates on both the port and it used to be a fortress. Today there is the cultural centre and the Maritime museum.
In the city there are two churches, the Metropolitan church of the Three Hierarchs and the church of the Nativity of the Theotokos. In the first store the icon of Panagia Eikonistria, patron saint of the island and in the second the image of our Lady Odigitria and the carts of Alexandros Papadiamantis.
The monasteries are two: The Virgin Mary Eikonistrias and the historical Monastery of Annunciation where on 1807 the decision for the creation of the the first Greek flad was made. There is housed the museum of ecclesiastical heirlooms and a shop with local products.
Finally, don’t forget to visit the Castle (Kastro), the medieval town in the northern part of the island that is maintained until today like archaeological site.
